  • Gender Discrimination at work can begin as early as the hiring process. A company is not legally allowed to make hiring decisions based upon an applicant’s gender. An example of an instance where gender discrimination occurs during the hiring process is if an applicant isn’t chosen because the employer believes that the clients won’t be comfortable dealing with a woman.
  • Another time that gender discrimination can occur prior to employment is when a condition of employment seems to be gender biased. Examples of this type of bias include tests of strength that don’t seem to be explicitly related to the actual duties of the job.
  • Gender discrimination can also occur during termination from a job. This may happen when a company announces layoffs but chooses to keep workers of a specific gender over other employees that have more seniority or are otherwise better qualified.
  • Pay differentials based upon gender is another possible type of gender discrimination. This happens when lower-level employees of one gender receive higher pay than higher-ranked employees of the other gender.
  • Job Classifications based on gender are also illegal. When a company tends to place members of one gender in low-paid jobs with little chance of promotion, this is a form of gender discrimination.

By looking for these five signs, you can determine whether or not gender discrimination is taking place in your workplace. If you are ready to meet with our Gender Discrimination Lawyer in L.A., contact us at Jackson & Associates for more information about your legal rights.
